About ME
I graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Messina in 2010 with the grade of 110/110 and I discussed a thesis entitled "Development of a micro flow modulator for comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography". In January 2010, I started the Ph.D. course focused on "Food chemistry and safety" at the pharma-chemical department, in the Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Messina). After having completed my PhD, defending the thesis entitled “Novel developments in the field of cryogenic and flow “loop-type” modulators for comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography applied to complex food analysis”, I started a post-doc period in the same research group focused on the development and application of flow modulated comprehensive 2D GC methods combined with single-quadrupole, triple-quadrupole and high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry for the analysis of complex samples (food, biological, flavour&fragrance, petrochemical etc.). After a brief experience as a GC-MS specialist in a small private company (Chromaleont) I started developing my background in clinical research (breath analysis, pathogens volatile metabolites etc.) at Dartmouth College (USA). My research there involved the use of comprehensive 2D GC-MS technique as a diagnostic tool for a more rapid diagnosis of human lung infections.
I spent 3 years as post-doc in the Organic and Biological Analytical Chemistry Lab at the University of Liège (Belgium), where I kept developing advanced and robust analytical strategies, involving sorbent-based extraction and high-resolution mass spectrometry, for food, plant, and biological applications. Nowadays, with the knowledge and the awareness of the pitfalls in the clinical landscape, I am working at the Department of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Sciences of the University of Ferrara, refining and expanding the high-level research for a wide range life-science applications and fundamental studies on method development and optimization for either sampling and detection.
